Aims, Objectives and Strategy
Aim
The overall aim is to improve the management of obesity in primary care, thus reducing the disease burden of obesity in the population.
Objectives
- To collect national anonymised obesity data from primary care registers
- To develop a treatment model for obesity management in primary care
- To facilitate the implementation of this treatment model into primary care
- To evaluate the impact of this model of care, and lead future practise
Strategy
Seven Weight Management Advisers (Counterweight Specialists) and a National Co-ordinator facilitated the implementation of the weight programme. The Weight Management Advisers (Counterweight Specialists) conducted a review of baseline medical practise, staff training, and then provided on-going support to the practice nurse and practice in the delivery of Counterweight. This was for a minimum of six months.
