What We Offer
The Counterweight Programme offers PCTs a consistent evidence based model of care for patients requiring weight management intervention. To date, Counterweight has been commissioned in 20 PCTs across England alone.
Counterweight has been commissioned by the Scottish Government as the preferred option for adult weight management within Primary Care across 13 Scottish Health Boards.
The Counterweight Programme is an evidence-based intervention programme for obesity management in UK primary care.
It is a flexible and sustainable model that can be adapted to deliver tailored weight loss programmes depending on needs and level of resources available. Although evaluated in a primary care setting, it can be adapted for use in other settings.
- A structured approach for clinicians and supporting staff
- Obesity management integrated into daily practice
- Tailored weight loss plans and lifestyle management advice
- Clinically beneficial
- Cost effective
Using a system of continuous improvement methodology, findings from the Counterweight Project have been used to review and refine the programme.
The model is based on Counterweight Specialists (registered Dietitians/Nutritionists), working across Primary Care Trusts and Health Boards to train and support healthcare staff to put the Counterweight obesity program into practice. It is anticipated that each trained practice could enroll an average of 50 patients in a year.
