Gary: “Once you step on those scales and see the weight coming down, you know you are doing the right thing.”
My name is Gary and I am 53 years old. I am a proud father of my boy, Daryl, and have been married to my wife Julie for 28 years. I work for Newport City Council as the supervisor running the plant and grounds maintenance workshop.
“An old friend recommended the programme – I didn’t recognise him at first”
It was purely by chance that I learned about Counterweight and started my Counterweight Plus weight loss journey. I pulled over one day after driving past a friend. He was there with another man, and it took me a few seconds to realise that he was another old friend. He had gone from a very large man to half the size he used to be. I asked him if he had been ill - I think this is what most people assume when they see someone who has lost a tremendous amount of weight! His reply was: “No, Gary, I have been on the Counterweight Plus programme.” The conversation progressed from there and I decided to give it a try.
“It just takes some getting used to”
Being on the programme was initially challenging, but I think the main difficulty was simply getting used to it. It was different to anything I had done before. At first, you may struggle to wrap your head around it, but once you step on those scales and see the weight coming down, you know you are doing the right thing.
“The programme has changed my mindset”
I don’t think I will ever look at food in the same way again. Before, when I would go out to a restaurant, I would immediately see the biggest item on the menu. Now I find myself reading the menu top to bottom and not necessarily going for the first thing I think I want, but rather choosing what works for me and what is good for me. After a while on Counterweight Plus, you approach food in a different way - what you eat, and how much you eat.
“It worked – simple as that”
Counterweight Plus was recommended to me and it worked - simple as that. When speaking to my friend who had done the programme, I was the same as everyone else and a bit sceptical. You will probably be too, but do your utmost to see it through, no matter how tough you think it is. The tough times pass and become less and less the more weight comes off. After the programme I have lost over 34kg and gone from walking a few hundred yards and being completely and utterly exhausted, to cycling 16 miles on the mountain bike around the streets of Cardiff. I have got to be honest, for a 53-year-old knacker like me... that’s not bad going!
